  • Demonstrating new all-solid-state battery cell and battery module pack
  • Expanding product portfolio in electric mobility and chassis systems through recent merger with Vitesco Technologies
  • Presenting in technical conference on battery technology, electric motors, and electronic control strategy for battery electric vehicles

Schaeffler, the motion technology company, will demonstrate innovations that make motion and mobility more efficient, intelligent, and sustainable during the Electric Vehicle Technology Expo and The Battery Show North America 2024, held October 7-10, 2024, at Huntington Place in Detroit.

A highlight of Schaeffler’s product portfolio at the show will be a new All-Solid-State Battery (ASSB) cell and module pack concept, which integrates the required stack pressure needed for ASSB cells in electric vehicles. ASSBs offer higher energy density (or driving range), fast charging and greater safety compared to lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries. However, ASSB technology has historically faced challenges such as stack pressure and complicated manufacturing processes to scale up and be ready for the market. To address these challenges, Schaeffler leverages its innovative expertise in manufacturing, advanced coating and system-level engineering to prepare ASSB technology for commercialization and integration into electric vehicles (EVs).

“We are committed to revolutionizing the battery industry for the next generation of EVs and are thrilled to showcase our latest innovations once again at this important event,” said Dr. Rashid Farahati, vice president of battery cell development at Schaeffler. “Batteries, motors and peripheral technology will play a significant role in the evolving automotive industry. We are continually working to invent the best design for a safer, more efficient and sustainable future,” continued Dr. Farahati.

Schaeffler recently completed the acquisition of Vitesco Technologies and will be featuring its expanded product portfolio in electric mobility, battery management system, and chassis systems.

Electric Axles
Schaeffler will showcase its rigid beam 3in1 electric axle that delivers optimal torque benefits and modular setup. The company will also feature its highly scalable, high-voltage axle drive (EMR4) that integrates a permanent-magnet synchronous machine, an inverter and a reducer, all part of its new expanded e-axle offering.

Battery Management System
As a result of the merger, the company now provides a more comprehensive battery management system, which includes the battery management controller, cell supervising circuits, and the battery junction box. These offerings enable Schaeffler to provide more turnkey solutions for its customers.

Chassis Systems
Schaeffler will showcase its innovative ride height adjustment that optimizes vehicle height while traveling to maximize aerodynamics and increase battery range.

In addition to exhibiting at the show, several Schaeffler technology experts will present in the following technical sessions:

  • Vitthal Thamke, Senior staff systems engineer: A benchmarking analysis of the AWD Hyundai Ioniq 5; Tuesday, Oct. 8, 11:30 a.m.
  • Dr. Rashid Farahati, vice president, corporate competency Americas: Elevating Solid-State Batteries: Enhancing Scalability for Automotive Integration; Tuesday, Oct. 8, 4:15 p.m.
  • Dr. Hossain Mohammadi, senior staff systems engineer: Next-Generation Traction Electric Motors for Battery Electric Vehicles; Thursday, Oct. 10, 12:15 p.m.
