2024-05-09 | Fort Mill, , S.C.

  • Schaeffler to demonstrate its latest innovations for cleaner and more sustainable commercial transportation
  • Dr. Rashid Farahati to speak during Battery Technology Pathways and Paradigm Shifts panel
  • Schaeffler focus to be on driving, energizing, generating and guiding motion in transportation

Schaeffler, a pioneering force in the field of motion technology, will showcase a range of cutting-edge technologies, including its electric beam axle, medium-duty truck demonstrator, fuel cell stacks, all-solid-state batteries, and electric motors in booth #2271 at ACT Expo, May 20-23, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, West Hall. During the event, Dr. Rashid Farahati, Schaeffler Director of the Corporate Competency Center Americas, will speak during the Battery Technology Pathway and Paradigm Shifts panel on Monday, May 20, from 9-10:15 a.m.

Schaeffler’s participation in the ACT Expo highlights its dedication to innovation in addressing current motion challenges and shaping a sustainable future to drive, energize, generate, and guide motion in the heavy-duty industry. With over 75 years of expertise in motion technology, Schaeffler offers tailored solutions across the motion spectrum. The company’s focus on the medium and heavy-duty sector at this event underscores its transformative growth in the Americas, reaffirming their commitment to tackling present challenges and preparing for future opportunities.

"As we navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of motion technology, Schaeffler remains steadfast in our commitment to driving innovation and sustainability," said Dr. Farahati. "Our participation in ACT Expo 2024 reflects our dedication to pioneering solutions that address current challenges, shapes the future of motion in commercial vehicles, and paves the way for a greener future."

Drive Motion
Within its display, Schaeffler will demonstrate its newest systems, components and solutions for battery electric and hydrogen powertrains. This includes the rigid beam 3in1 electric axle designed for medium-duty applications, featuring high-torque capabilities and modular integration. The 3in1 electric axle consists of an electric motor, SiC inverter and transmission.

The exhibit will also feature Schaeffler’s modular electric motor systems for a broad spectrum of power and voltage ranges. The electric motors are ideal for e-axle, BEV and hybrid applications in medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

Energize Motion
Schaeffler will showcase its latest generation of all-solid-state batteries (ASSB) as well as hydrogen fuel cell technologies that address industry needs related to power density, range and commercial options.

The all-solid-state batteries offer higher energy density, extended range, fast-charging options, and important safety advantages due to their non-flammable nature. Battery packs are a complex component of modern heavy duty electric vehicles, requiring control systems, thermal management systems, mechanical structures, state-of-the-art battery cells, and system integration. Schaeffler’s technologies include a battery management system that incorporates intelligent algorithms supported by the deep knowledge acquired by Schaeffler's battery cell team.

The exhibit will also feature fuel cell stack technology. Schaeffler is strongly diversified in the industrial and automotive sectors and is involved at every point in the energy chain, from the generation of energy to its use in vehicles. Schaeffler’s fuel cells are energy converters, which let H2 react with O2 to form water. The electricity generated during this process is used to power the vehicle’s electric motor. In addition to bipolar plates and entire fuel cell stacks, Schaeffler also offers high-performance control systems, low-friction bearings, and thermal management modules that help make fuel cells even more efficient and cost-effective.

Generate Motion
The commercial vehicle industry is aggressively working to reduce CO2 emissions. Schaeffler’s eRocker System – the first of its kind on the market – is an electromechanical valve system used to deactivate the exhaust valves of the engine. The system consists of three main components: a dual-pin electromagnetic actuator; two slider bars; and either eight (4-cylinder) or 12 (six-cylinder) switchable roller finger followers. The eRocker Systems offers a number of unique advantages, including full switching performance throughout the entire engine temperature / speed range; relatively simple integration within the cylinder head; independent operation of oil pressure from the cylinder head; and a reduced total system cost.

Guide Motion
Schaeffler bearings are specifically designed to meet high load and lifetime requirements as well as low-rolling resistance for increased range and reduced fuel consumption. Utilizing the company’s bearings solutions, truck operators can achieve a significant reduction in TCO (total cost of ownership). The company will feature a variety of bearing designs from its wide product portfolio, including accessory units and special applications for commercial vehicles.

Schaeffler will be located at Booth #2271 from May 20-23, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, West Hall. ACT Expo, North America’s largest advanced commercial vehicle technology event, has united the transportation sector in its mission to reduce emissions and drive economic sustainability for over a decade.
