Schaeffler, the Motion Technology Company, will showcase the growing importance of electrification and energy optimization, extending beyond efficiency to offer improved safety, control and other relevant customer priorities.
The company will present its latest advancements in energy management at its Automotive Symposium in September under the theme, Beyond Driving. Together We Innovate. The event brings together automotive customers, industry experts and technology leaders to explore the next generation of mobility.
"As electrification enters its next phase of growth, customers expect longer range, faster charging, enhanced safety, lower operating costs and greater sustainability," said Dr. Rashid Farahati, VP, Corporate Competence Center Americas. "Meeting those expectations requires advances in battery technology and thermal management. Schaeffler's integrated approach combines advanced cell technology, battery management systems and thermal solutions to support a new era of mobility applications across automotive and beyond."
Redefining Battery Technology
Schaeffler's all-solid-state battery (ASSB) technology represents a significant step forward in energy storage. By replacing conventional liquid electrolytes with solid electrolytes, ASSBs offer the potential for improved safety and higher energy density. The use of ultra-thin metallic lithium anodes can increase energy density significantly compared with today's lithium-ion batteries, supporting lighter and more compact battery systems.
Beyond automotive applications, ASSBs have the potential to benefit from emerging mobility solutions, including humanoids, where reduced weight, improved safety and extended operating time are especially valuable. Schaeffler continues to advance these required technologies to bring next-generation solid-state batteries to market.
Dependable Energy Storage for the Future of Driving
Schaeffler’s conventional battery module is a standard building block for EV energy storage that groups individual cells into a structured, scalable unit for assembly into a larger battery pack. It stores electrical energy, supports the electric drivetrain and makes battery systems easier to build, service and integrate. As a reliable and proven approach to EV battery design, it can be adapted to different vehicle sizes and performance needs, while helping customers build more efficient battery packs. The conventional modules are also highly beneficial for autonomous driving because they provide a stable, reliable energy supply that self-driving systems need to operate safely.
Integrated Battery Packs and Cells
Schaeffler’s battery pack expertise combines control systems, thermal management, mechanical structures, advanced battery cells and system integration for improved EV performance, safety and reliability. With a deep understanding of cell chemistry, physical behavior and advanced testing capabilities, Schaeffler robust battery models and usage strategies are tailored to customer applications.
A vast knowledge of battery cells, intelligent battery management and system integration capabilities make Schaeffler’s battery packs stand out within the industry. Most notably, Schaeffler has developed an innovative solid electrolyte coating process. This results in a thinner, more uniform application while also reducing consumption of solid electrolyte materials—one of the most expensive components in ASSBs. In addition to battery cells, battery management systems, thermal management technologies and complete pack integration capabilities, Schaeffler also offers innovative manufacturing approaches and packing systems.
Optimized Thermal Management Solutions
Schaeffler’s integrated cooling systems help batteries and power electronics maintain optimal operating temperature ranges more efficiently with fewer parts and better overall system performance, including cabin comfort. The powertrain-centric integrated cooling system R290 combines driving functions with thermal management to optimize overall efficiency through a streamlined coolant circuit paired with a high-performance refrigerant cycle.
Schaeffler also supports data center energy management by applying its expertise in thermal management, motion technology and power electronics to improve cooling efficiency, reliability and overall energy use. These capabilities help data centers operate more sustainably while maintaining the uptime and performance critical to digital infrastructure.
At the 2026 Schaeffler Automotive Symposium, customers will see how our advanced battery technology and thermal management systems ensure consistent performance under all conditions. As the industry becomes increasingly focused on electrification, efficiency and sustainability, Schaeffler’s comprehensive energy management portfolio is designed to support the next generation of mobility.
