The DTM at Spielberg – for the eighth time in a row, the Red Bull Ring is providing a spectacular stage. Next weekend (September 22 to 23) the race will be on again in Austria. Schaeffler driver Mike Rockenfeller is tackling the event full of confidence.
Austria’s most important race track has many highs and lows – in a strictly topographical sense, as well as a historical one. Nowhere else are the DTM drivers confronted with gradients like those in the Murtal valley in Styria. The former high-speed circuit with its uniquely idyllic Alpine flair was an object of political controversy for many years, was closed and even partially torn down. Particularly in the interest of higher safety for motorsport on two and four wheels the roller coaster track on the outskirts of the town of Spielberg was modified several times. The current track layout allows many overtaking maneuvers and usually delivers thrilling races.
In 2018, the Red Bull Ring is hosting the ninth DTM event, which means races number 17 and 18 of the season. Schaeffler brand ambassador Mike Rockenfeller in five of the most recent six rounds, at the Nürburgring, at Misano and at Brands Hatch, scored top-ten results and thus points. That’s why the 2013 DTM Champion is tackling the event in Styria in his Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM full of confidence.
Long DTM tradition
Schaeffler has been active in the DTM from the very beginning. Together with its product brands the company supports drivers and teams with motorsport and engineering know-how. Since 2011 the technology group has been giving its name to the Schaeffler Audi and celebrated major successes including two title wins. In the DTM, cars with internal combustion engines have traditionally been used. This is a field in which Schaeffler makes an important contribution as well with innovative technologies and products to make IC engines efficient and fit for mobility for tomorrow.
