The growing desire for control and monitoring systems in rail transport require comprehensive data acquisition during journeys. More and more information from the axlebox bearings is required for various vehicle systems. Schaeffler Group Industrial has developed a axlebox bearing unit with an integrated sensor (ready-to-install cartridge with integrated sensor), which has been optimized to meet the needs of rail transport.
The sensors reliably transmit information about speed to the wheel-slide and brake systems, speed indicators, door closing mechanisms and rolling recognition systems. Continual temperature measurements for early hot-running recognition enable potential problems to be identified early on, which makes it possible for the appropriate action to be taken in sufficient time. In the future, requirements-based maintenance will be feasible on the basis of continual information acquisition with additional sensor signals such as those for vibrations or operational performance.
The bearing can be fitted with numerous independent multi-channel speed systems for future train control systems such as ERTMS/ETCS or other train control systems.
