The type and size of the bearings needed for a specific application are determined by the results of a life calculation carried out for the bearings.
The gear manufacturer’s specification and the rolling bearing manufacturer’s calculation programs should reflect the actual operating conditions as accurately as possible to permit designers to dimension the bearings appropriately. In close cooperation with gear manufacturers, based on extensive testing, INA and FAG have developed calculation methods and programs that are among the most advanced in the rolling bearing industry.
A calculation according to DIN ISO 281 is not sufficient if the actual service life of the bearings is considerably influenced by factors like bearing clearance or preload, bearing rigidity, shaft or housing elasticity. In these cases INA and FAG uses special calculation programs whose results are even closer to the actual service life of the bearings.
