SIEMAG TECBERG is a market leader in the field of winders. Customer-specific complete solutions or individual components, such as those for shaft winders, are used worldwide in deep mines and opencast mines. SIEMAG TECBERG and Schaeffler Technologies GmbH & Co. KG have been working closely together in this field for many years. A description is given here of the bearing arrangement of winders used by the Palabora Mining Company in South Africa,

Operating conditions for bearings in vibratory machinery: Vibratory screens used for grading (= separation of solid materials by grain size) of materials and other vibratory machinery such as road rollers and saw frames are among the machines subjected to the most severe stresses. The rolling bearings in the exciter units of these machines must support not only high loads and high speeds but also accelerations and centrifugal forces. Many of these applications involve adverse environmental conditions such as contamination and moisture. The special spherical roller bearings developed by FAG are matched to the operating conditions in vibratory machinery and have proved highly successful in practical use.

Split spherical roller bearings are principally used where the replacement of unsplit spherical roller bearings would require costly additional work, involving the removal of gears or couplings, the dismounting of drives or the dismantling of shaft power trains. The use of split spherical roller bearings reduces the downtime of machinery and plant.

The new radial insert ball bearing and housing units FAG Black Series from Schaeffler Group give easy mounting, smooth running and high reliability and thus allow particularly economical bearing arrangements. The dimensions of the FAG housings, made from flake graphite cast iron and with a primer paint coating, conform to JIS B 1559. These single piece cast housings can support moderate to high radial and axial loads. The radial insert ball bearings have basic protection against corrosion due to the Durotect® coating. The bearing units are particularly suitable for applications with moderate to high loads.

Rolling bearings utilized in the drilling sector have to operate under some of the harshest conditions on (and under) the earth. Because this unforgiving operating environment subjects the drilling equipment to so much stress, extremely robust and reliable bearings are required for this industry.

FAG spherical roller bearings have proved highly effective wherever high loads are present and there is a need to compensate for shaft deflections and/or misalignment of bearing seats.

Since 1984, roller presses – also referred to as grinding rolls – have increasingly been used for crushing medium-hard and hard materials. Today, they are used in the coarse grinding, hybrid grinding and fine grinding of limestone, cement clinker, ores, coal and other mineral material. The advantages of a roller press over conventional size reduction machines, e.g. tube mills, include a considerably higher efficiency and a higher material throughput.

Schaeffler KG Schweinfurt, broke new ground with the bearings for the QUADROPOL, a roller mill developed by Polysius AG, Beckum, for grinding the raw material for cement production. The new roller mill is a significantly more economical solution than the previously used systems at Polysius AG. Even the first mill far exceeded the expected output.
