Design and computer simulation help us create a very safe wheel bearing
The virtual verification of our products is effected via optimised calculation methods for bearings (Bearinx) as well as finite-element-analysis (ABAQUS, Nastran, Marc). In addition, the performance of the most important product characteristics as life endurance, components strength, rigidity, friction, fit, false brinelling etc. is guaranteed by extensive test rigs at all our engineering centers.
Stress evaluation at critical spots of the wheel bearing unit
Extensive calculation is done in order to optimise the design. The wheel bearing unit may not show any cracks even after the toughest tests under abusive loads, e.g. pothole crossings or kerb starts. The stresses occurring on the critical spots of the wheel bearing are precisely analysed with the help of the finite element method.
Test results are verified on special FAG rotating bending and life time test rigs. In addition to the mechanical functions, like replacing the central nut for securing the wheel in axial direction by an orbitally formed shoulder, electronic functions, such as an ABS sensor, are directly integrated in the wheel bearing unit.
